Te Oranganui is a kaupapa Māori organisation providing health, wellbeing, and social services that support whānau across Whanganui and surrounding districts. Guided by tikanga Māori, Whānau Ora, and a whānau-centred approach, we work alongside whānau to strengthen wellbeing, build capability, and achieve their aspirations.

He kōrero mō te ratonga | About the Service

Waiora Hinengaro provides mental health and addiction services that support tāngata whai ora and whānau on their journey towards improved wellbeing. Through a recovery-focused, strengths-based, and whānau-centred approach, the service recognises individual potential and provides support that responds to the unique needs, goals, and aspirations of tamariki, rangatahi, adults, and whānau.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role 

Join Te Oranganui in supporting tāne within Whanganui Prison to make positive and lasting change through culturally led, recovery-focused AOD interventions. In this role, you will provide assessment, counselling, group facilitation, and harm minimisation support while integrating tikanga Māori and recovery principles into your practice. Working alongside Corrections and community partners, you will help strengthen wellbeing, build resilience, and support improved outcomes for tāne. 

This is a permanent full-time position.

He kōrero mōu |About You 

You are passionate about supporting people to achieve positive change and are committed to improving outcomes for Māori. You bring experience in the AOD sector, strong facilitation and communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships.

You will also have:

  • A relevant AOD qualification and current registration/practising certificate.
  • Experience delivering one-to-one and group-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of tikanga Māori and recovery-focused practice.
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence and the ability to meet security clearance requirements.

Most importantly, you will bring a strengths-based approach and a genuine commitment to supporting the wellbeing of tāne and their whānau.
