Based in beautiful Whanganui Te Oranganui is a kaupapa Māori organisation who offers a range of health and wellbeing services for whānau in the Whanganui region and surrounding districts. 

Waiora Hinengaro provide mental health & addiction services to support tangata whaiora in their journey back to health and wellbeing, which is also underpinned in the belief that people can find their own strengths to live the life the way they want, utilising whānau as key contributors.

Te Oranganui are seeking a compassionate and culturally grounded Mental Health Support Worker to join our dedicated team. This role is focussed on supporting tangata whaiora in their recovery and wellbeing journey, using the principles of Tikanga Māori, Whānau Ora and contemporary mental health practices.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide person-centred, strengths-based support to tangata whaiora
  • Collaborate with whānau, clinicians, and community services
  • Promote holistic wellbeing—physical, emotional, spiritual, and social
  • Uphold and integrate Tikanga Māori values in everyday practice
  • Support recovery plans and encourage autonomy and resilience

What we are looking for:

  • Experience or a NZ Level 4 qualification in mental health, social services or related field desireable
  • Understanding of Whānau Ora, and commitment to culturally responsive care
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Empathy, reliability, and a genuine passion for supporting others
