Based in beautiful Whanganui Te Oranganui is a kaupapa Māori organisation who offers a range of health and wellbeing services for whānau in the Whanganui region and surrounding districts. 

Te Taihāhā is whānau centered, and sensitive to the needs and aspirations of whānau living with disabilities. Te Taihāhā has access to and relevant information and advocacy support essential in planning requirements to meet the support needs of the individual.

About the role:

As the Vocations Kaituruki you will support all tangata whai ora of the Vocational Programme to participate fully in their chosen activities including support with personal cares, mobility, nutrition and communication needs during their time at the Vocation Programme. You will:

  • Provide effective and supportive behaviour management with positive approach to challenging behaviours
  • Use initiative and creativity to match activities provided to tangata whai ora interests 
  • Preparing and cleaning areas as required including food preparation and activities 
  • Participate in delivering Vocational Services that are focused on enabling people with disabilities to participate in and contribute to the wider community.
  • Transport tangata whai ora safely when required. 
  • Provide effective supervision of tangata whai ora on community outings. 
  • Role model and practice the tikanga of Te Oranganui and the Vocation Service.
  • Use self-determination and person-centred attitudes when working with tangata whai ora

About you

  •  Be able to start immediately
  • Previously worked in the vocations space previously
  • Have an understanding of how to work with clients
  • Must have a clean and valid driver’s license
  • Must be eligible to work in NZ
  • Subject to clean police clearance check
